GENEVA JACUZZI: WHAT THE HELL WAS IT THAT HAPPENED?

(Translated from Spanish via google translate. Ha!)

There are few occasions when the planets align for an event such as raised last Friday night repeat. Amid the chaos, screams, destruction and techno music, singer and visual artist Geneva Jacuzzi, presented her installation "Dark Ages - Part V: Art Void" by the joint efforts of Cine Tonala and UFOria! In what was undoubtedly one of the evening's most memorable, unique and confusing this city has seen in a while.

Late in the midnight, the only room which has suffered a metamorphosis Tonalá Film based on geometric shapes by way of an unspeakable scene turning around a steaming bowl on a pedestal. The playbill small spread in the room did not work a lot when describing the staging narrated "Art Void: No Dumping Allowed!! Is the story of a slicing machine and two-piece suction of what he learns of a schizoid clown-god art eternal void somewhere in one of the last stops of time and space. "

BEHIND THE SCENES: GENEVA JACUZZI AS AUTO GARVO IN IDIOT MENAGERIE OF THE AUTOMATIC DREAM CRUD By John Barclay

Geneva Jacuzzi is a sensational lady. The first night we met was about two years after I had discovered her music and two hours after I arrived in Paradise/Hellhole Miami, FL for Art Basel. In the midst of a cold and miserable post-break up NYC winter that had fully transformed me into a lonely toad/salted slug hybrid, I had landed and immediately absorbed all available tropical vibes, fruits, and substances.

In sharp contrast from the lonely scab-picking and shivering-myself-to-sleep that had been dominating my nights back in Brooklyn, I was now in an enchanted land of best friends and pineapples. On our third stop in a series of bars/clubs and by complete happenstance, me and my entourage entered Mamushka’s and noticed a mime, onstage, dancing up a dark storm........ read full article

Bizarre INTERVIEW for Sadie Magazine

The Real Geneva Jacuzzi By Sean Bailey

Geneva Garvin is unreal. Long live the real Geneva Garvin.

Geneva Jacuzzi, born Geneva Garvin, is a musician, performer, writer, and artist based out of LA. At least, this is the conventional fiction. Beyond the myth of the flesh and blood human exists a hundred other unconventional fictions, including the Grecian Goddess, the Mime, the Moon, the Sun, the Idiot Dancer, and the Zygote, to name a few. Placing equal weight on the real and unreal, Jacuzzi’s music, performances, and identity often fluctuate between mundane and fantastical states, resulting in real/unreal hybrid outcomes. (This interview is no exception.) In the world of Geneva Jacuzzi, songs about a mess of clothes on the bed sit comfortably next to ballads describing the lives of zombie sharks. Through these charming juxtapositions, it becomes increasingly difficult for the audience to determine which fiction is more fantastical—that which we think is real, or that which we know is not real............. read full article and interview

Forget Hot Tub Time Machine, here's Geneva Jacuzzi!
A Q&A with singer Geneva Garvin for Venus Zine
By Noreen Sobczyk

Geneva Jacuzzi's debut LP Lamaze, a compilation of self-released tracks and the new song "Do I Sad?," was recently released on Vinyl International. After discussing how singer Geneva Garvin doesn't like to discuss her music and then bonding over our mutual love for Ken Russell and Crispin Glover, we got down to business.

VZ: You haven't you done many interviews.
GG: This is my third interview. Does it matter? Do I have something to say?

VZ: Can you explain why you don't like to talk about your music?
GG: The moment humans started using language, we got out of tune with nature. In the beginning, we used symbols and were disassociated with what we we were thinking and feeling. Now, we think in words and it creates chaos. If you create something melodic it can't be misunderstood. Words or sentences can be misunderstood, but a song is what it is every time. You may experience it differently, but it is what it is. Music is a thing for your ears to look at, a way to cope with experiences.

VZ: The album is available digitally, on vinyl, and on 8-track, which you work with. Is 8-track your ideal format?
GG: [Laughs] 8-tracks! I burn each CD myself. Vinyl International is vinyl and digital. Eight-track was their idea, but I did have an idea to release them as videos on VHS.

VZ: A la Jan Terri.
GG: [Laughs] Jan Terri is a beautiful chick. She's genius. I'm serious. She was an inspiration. "Journey to Mars" is amazing.

VZ: How long have you been making music?
GG: I started late. I began recording when I was about 21, so seven years now. Once I started to play I recorded, and I wrote before I knew how to play.

VZ: Your music has a heavy '80s electronic influence, but you were born in '82, right?
GG: 1981, yeah. It makes sense to me psychologically. My brain was developing. There was Duran Duran on the radio. All my subconscious patterning was built on synth-pop with big hair. It's my framework I guess. [Laughs]

VZ: Have you toured, and do you plan on touring again?
GG: I often play in California and did one European tour. I did a tour with Ariel Pink [who mastered Lamaze]. I'll play anywhere they want to fly me and give me money.

VZ: You live with Ariel Pink. Does he appear on Lamaze?
GG: He's on "Love Caboose." He is the main keyboard line and has a guitar sample. He wrote the first verse of "Greek Ambassador." The rest is all me.

VZ: You really embody the DIY aesthetic. Describe your process or philosophy.
GG: I didn't want to develop a philosophy of DIY. Not on purpose anyway—I just always think I can do things because other people do them. It's always the thought, "Let’s see if I can." And when I can, I'm stuck doing it. I made every CD and all the merchandise. I learned you can do it, but whether you can or should are two different things. I have a factory in my kitchen, [but] all that takes you away from making music. I just want to make music.
